Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Smokefree Advisor Maternity Support Worker. The person would be joining our existing Smokefree team which is expanding, having only started operating since October 2022.
The post holder will manage referrals to the Smokefree Service and support pregnant smokers to quit through weekly appointments for on how to manage cravings and will give out Nicotine Replacement Therapy. You will have your own caseload of pregnant mothers and people to support and there is great autonomy in this role to manage your time and caseload. At the moment this is a fixed term contract until the end of March 2024 but we are expecting this to be made permanent, pending wider NHS review.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for someone who enjoys engaging with patients in a supportive role, is positive about life and how patients can make a difference in their own pregnancy and the life of their families. Good communication skills are essential for this role.
The post holder will have a caseload of pregnant people to support over a two to three month period and will manage the caseload with minimal support from the Smoking in Pregnancy Midwife. A flexible attitude and ability to travel between hospital sites, other community hubs and patient's homes is essential.
The post holder will be screening referrals to the service daily, arranging appointments, referring on to other services available, managing own diaries, ordering and maintaining a stock of Nicotine Replacement Products from Pharmacy and seeing patients who are engaging with the Maternity Smokefree Service. This role is varied and therefore interesting for anyone looking to expand their skills and knowledge.
We are particularly looking to recruit an existing Maternity Support worker, a Nurse Associate, a Smokefree Advisor and those with a Healthcare background as experience in those jobs is helpful in this role.
