Job summary
As one of the largest radiotherapy departments in England, the Kent Oncology Centre provides specialist cancer services to those living in Kent, Medway and parts of east Sussex through its centres in Maidstone and Canterbury.
The Kent Oncology Centre has nine Varian linear accelerators across both sites. At Maidstone there are four TrueBeams, one Halcyon and one Clinac iX which will be replaced by a further Halcyon shortly, while at Canterbury there are two Truebeams and one Clinac iX.
Both sites have dedicated CT-simulators for treatment planning.
The radiation engineering team provides a repair and maintenance service for this equipment, as well as providing first line support to the Trust's radiology imaging department from our well-equipped mechanical and electronics workshops.
As a highly experienced radiation engineer, you would continue to contribute to the repair and maintenance of the linear accelerators and diagnostic imaging equipment whilst providing leadership to the wider team.
Main duties of the job
As the deputy head of radiation engineering, you would have delegated responsibility for a range of managerial and supervisory duties for this safety critical service.
As an acknowledged expert in linear accelerator technology, you would also provide highly specialist technical advice, teaching and training to other engineering staff, radiation engineering trainees and to the wider Medical Physics Department.
