Job summary

A exciting new role is available within in our team for a Diabetes Educator. This is a role for someone passionate about diabetes education, in particular staff education.

We are looking for a creative thinker who is able to put innovative ideas into practice, keep learning understandable and accessible for all MTW members of staff. The ideal candidate would be a motivated, good team player who is able to adapt to a more virtual working world.

The successful candidate will have a strategic role in developing our diabetes education service cross site. Therefore both diabetes knowledge and education experience is central to this role.

If you have a strong background of skills in education but need assistance with your diabetes knowledge development and interested in the role please make contact.

A band 6 would be considered with strong education experience for cascade training on a fixed or secondment basis.

Main duties of the job

We aim to offer diabetes specialist nurses the opportunity to work in any area of our service over time, to develop a broad range of diabetes knowledge, experience and skills. Our service covers in-patient, out-patient and community diabetes CNS roles so a unique place to work for any Diabetes CNS wishing to progress in the professional.

We are a friendly team and a team who would support anyone new to our team. Experience of in patient nursing would be an advantage to this current role.

The Trust provides a full range of general hospital services and some areas of specialist complex care to around 500,000 people living in the south part of West Kent and the north part of East Sussex.

The Trust's core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and their surrounding boroughs. We work from two main clinical sites: Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. Tunbridge Wells Hospital opened in 2011 and provides single rooms with en-suites for all in-patients - the first of its kind in the country.

You will be expected to attend the Trusts 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email mtw-tr.professionalstandards@nhs.netif this is problematic)and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at enhanced level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)

  • Level 1 NMC Registered Nurse
  • Degree level study
  • Minimum of two of the below qualifications:- oDiabetes Diploma / Certificate i.e. equivalent to ENB 929 or higher oTeaching qualification or equivalent expert experience. oNon-medical prescriber

Desirable

  • Teaching Qualification or equivalent
  • Masters level study
  • Willingness to undertake Non-medical prescribing course

Experience/knowledge
