We are seeking to appoint two dynamic individuals to join the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells Hospitals.
First post is a replacement post to complement the existing excellent skills within the department and to provide leadership, and further expand and develop the current accredited endometriosis service
Second post is an additional post for service development and implementation of Ockendon recommendations. In addition to providing leadership for Guideline development and work closely with our Governance leads.
The successful candidates will join a cohesive team of 16 consultants with on call and emergency commitments at the Tunbridge Wells hospital site.
Main duties of the job

About us
The Trust consists of the Tunbridge Wells Hospital and Maidstone Hospital and serves a population of approximately 500,000 people, living in the West Kent and East Sussex areas. The Trust also manages the Kent Cancer Centre at Maidstone and Canterbury.
Service provision for Obstetrics is based at the Tunbridge Wells hospital with Birth Centres adjacent to Maidstone Hospital and in Crowborough. We deliver approximately 5800 babies per annum across the three units. Gynaecology inpatients and most emergencies are treated at Tunbridge Wells Hospital. We also provide Ambulatory Gynaecology service at Maidstone hospital. Outpatient services are at both hospitals.

CONSULTANT POST IN OBSTETRICS & GYNAECOLOGY - SPECIALIST INTEREST IN ADVANCED LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY & ENDOMETRIOSIS
- To have experience in Gynaecology with an interest in endometriosis and complex laparoscopic gynaecology surgery.
- To become part of the endometriosis team with regular outpatient clinics, MDT meetings, operating lists and working collaboratively with allied professionals.
- To lead further developments in the endometriosis service, particularly strengthening care pathway for women with pelvic pain.
- To contribute to laparoscopic surgery training in our department
- The post holder will help the Trust in achieving cancer targets and support the gynaecology oncology service by providing 2-week wait Rapid Access clinics, undertaking surgery to meet the 62-day target and contributing to the gynae oncology MDT.
- To contribute to daytime emergency obstetrics and gynaecology cover (hot weeks) and contribute to the on-call obstetrics and gynecology rota. The department aims to provide a broader 7-day service in the future and this will be reflected in changes to the on call rota after discussion and agreement with the consultant
- To assist the Consultant Obstetricians and Consultant Midwife in the continuing update and training of all staff
- To provide antenatal, intra-partum and postnatal care within the department in close co- operation with colleagues and other
- To provide outpatient services on both sites.
- The post-holder will develop close collaborative links with Clinicians working in his/her area of specialist expertise and work to develop services to patients in these areas to the highest standard, according to departmental protocols and Trust guidance. To include development of diagnostic and where appropriate therapeutic protocols and guidelines, where appropriate this will involve active participation with Primary Care colleagues.
- It is expected that the Appointee will participate in the undergraduate and postgraduate medical education of the Trust e.g. Tutorials; and pursue opportunity to research. They should actively participate in departmental
- The Appointee will be expected to participate and contribute to the Trusts Clinical Governance Program, to participate in Clinical Trials, R & D Programs etc. in order to ensure that Clinical Practice is evidence
- The Appointee must ensure that effective working relationships are fostered with those agencies concerned with the provision of health care services and those representing consumers
- The Appointee must ensure that the Directorate responds positively and efficiently to all complaints, addresses deficiencies in the standard of the Directorate services identified, implementing changes to remedy identified problem
CONSULTANT POST IN OBSTETRICS & GYNAECOLOGYINTEREST IN GUIDELINE DEVELOPMENT
- To provide clinical commitments in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Interest and experience in Labour ward management is essential. There is a general gynaecology element to the post dependent on the skills of the successful candidate and in line with the departments requirements.
- To contribute to daytime emergency obstetrics and gynaecology cover (hot weeks) 1 in 16 and contribute to the on-call obstetrics and gynaecology rota. The department provides a 7-day service.
- To chair the Maternity Guideline Group committee, co-ordinate and develop new or updated guidelines/patient information developed for use within the Directorate are of high standard, referenced, multi-disciplinary and, wherever possible, evidence-based
- To assist the Consultant Obstetricians & Gynaecologists and Consultant Midwife in the continuing update and training of all staff
- To provide antenatal, intra-partum and postnatal care within the department in close co-operation with colleagues and other specialties.
