Job summary
Are you an experienced and highly skilled Clinical Support Worker? If so, there is an exciting opportunity for you to join the Stroke Specialist Nurse Team and work in the newly developed Stroke Assessment Bay. The Assessment Bay is used to rapidly assess Stroke/TIA patients and deliver lifesaving Thrombolysis treatment. Patients who are suspected to be having a Stroke are transferred here directly from A&E or Ambulance so it is fast paced and the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they can work in a busy environment and have excellent communication skills. There will also be an administrative aspect to this role, as patients will need to be booked onto the system quickly and efficiently, so you will need to be computer literate. Experience in caring for Stroke patients is preferable but support and training would be given to the ideal candidate.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of the team within the Stroke Assessment Bay, assisting in administrative and general care duties as specified below, under the direct supervision of the Stroke Assessors/Stroke Clinical Nurse Specialists.
Keeping the Assessment Bay clean, tidy and well stocked. Perform and document vital signs, 12 lead ECG, blood glucose levels and venous gases as directed and report findings to the Stroke Assessors. Cannulisation, Blood taking, taking specimens (particularly Rapid Covid Swabs). Admit, transfer and discharge patients electronically. Print wristbands/labels for newly admitted patients. Assist the Stroke Assessors to transport patients to the CT Department Act as a messenger and porter for supplies, specimens, records, equipment or any other required item for the Assessment Bay relating to patient care. The programme is full-time (please contact the CSW Induction Programme Lead ifthis is going to be problematic: rallen@nhs.net),lasts for two weeks and will involve travelling tobothTrust sites.Theprogramme includes 2 supernumerary shiftsin the clinical area (an early and a late shift),all of the other days are classroom-based andrun from 9am to 5pm
