Job summary
We are keen to appoint enthusiastic and committed Paediatric Gastroenterologist to join the team at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. This post is replacement post for a colleague who is retiring. You will be joining team of 2 other Paediatric Gastroenterologist.
We provide tertiary level Gastro service at MTW with close networking relationship with tertiary hospitals in London. The new Consultant will be able to work on cross sites but mainly Gastroenterology work including upper and lower GI diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies. There is possibility of doing outreach clinic. There is no on call commitment in this job.
Main duties of the job
To provide a high standard of care to any patient for whom you have clinical responsibility. This will include any patients referred to you and cared for by you personally or by members of your team and, in addition, any patients of consultant colleagues when you are covering on-call or for annual leave.
To participate in clinical and other service activities and developments with the aim of ensuring a high standard of patient care across the Trust.
To work in close co-operation with other medical, professional and managerial colleagues, both within and outside the specialty, to provide high quality health care to the Trusts patients, and to make a contribution to future thinking about the Trusts strategic direction.
To participate fully in and share leadership of the clinical governance of the specialty covering its Trust-wide activities. To attend clinical governance half-days as detailed in the Trusts Guide to Job Planning unless on agreed leave or while attending emergencies.

The Trust was formed in April 2000 by the merger of the Mid Kent Healthcare Trust and the Kent & Sussex Weald NHS Trust. It provides general hospital services to a population of approximately 460,000 in West Kent and North East Sussex, and some specialist services to a considerably larger population. Its major hospitals are the Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury and Maidstone Hospital.

The post-holder will share responsibility with the current gastro consultants for the provision of PGHAN services in South East England. The consultant will provide 9-5 cover for the service, including support of all patients locally, a consultation service for other departments and telephone advice. The Consultant will provide dedicated Paediatric Gastroenterology Clinics and be able to accommodate Rapid Access Clinic patients within 3 Gastroenterology Clinics per week. The post holder will be required to undertake both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures and be part of the Paediatric GI investigations Hub at Maidstone which involves overview of day case pH studies, impedance and breath tests.
The post-holder may need to do outreach clinics in his/her geographical area of responsibility. He/she will be responsible not only for the clinics but also for providing general advice on any children with GI problems in that area together with providing a lead for shared care arrangements.
