Part time 18.75 hoursAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed and driven pharmacy technician to join our respiratory pharmacy team to work with the allergy specialist service.

Main duties of the job

  • To operationally lead the dedicated specialist pharmacyservice for the CMG/service area. To identify, plan anddevelop new opportunities for the CMG/service area.
  • To be responsible for the management and coordination ofthe clinical technical support team ensuring accurate andtimely dispensing and supply of medicines, MedicinesReconciliation and Medicine's Management to all servicesusers including in-patients, out-patients, ward staff clinicstaff, medical staff and staff from the pharmacy department.
  • To lead development and delivery of training of pharmacyand non-pharmacy staff within CMG to understand pharmacyrequirements in the CMG/service setting.To link in with thePharmacy Professional Development and Clinical Assuranceteam when training pharmacy staff.
  • To be responsible for ensuring quality monitoring systemsare developed, implemented and agreed and that targetsand standards are set.
  • To oversee processes relating to the financial and ITsystems management relevant to the service.
  • Contribute to the Pharmacy Department Senior TechnicianOperational rota, providing support to our three hospital sites

About us

The Trust's Clinical Immunology and Allergy department is a highly recognised regional centre. We provide a comprehensive servicecovering all allergic conditions. We are also able to advise on whether symptoms which are difficult to diagnose could be due to allergy. We provide immune system therapy (desensitisation), for people with venom allergy and severe hayfever (allergic rhinitis) as well as specialised antibody treatments for hives (chronic spontaneous urticaria). We provide specialised diagnostic services for drug allergy and food allergy and work closely with our respiratory and dermatology colleagues to determine whether allergy is playing a part in asthma and eczema.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. Dedicated named pharmacy individual to support the Allergy service management of prescriptions in pharmacy (to include unlicensed medicines, home self-administration prescriptions) to ensure that allergy medicines are available and dispensed in preparation for day-case clinics and outpatients.
  2. Responsible for ensuring medicines are procured and purchased for service in a timely manner.
  3. To work with senior pharmacists to support introduction of new medicines into the Trust
  4. To collate prescription issue data from primary and secondary care resources to assess patients medicine adherence to their treatments, and support MDT decisions with drug adherence related problems.
  5. To help collect information about previous drug exposure of patients with early or delayed drug hypersensitivities and also about tolerated drugs from prescribing systems, such as SystmOne.
  6. To liaise with primary care regarding shared care agreements for allergy medicines
  7. To provide training to pharmacy technicians, pharmacists and the wider team to ensure accurate documentation of drug allergies on admission to hospital according to the recommended coding framework.
  8. To support day case drug challenge clinics, by overseeing preparation and dilution of drugs
  9. To support production of documentation e.g. SOPs, prescriptions, dilution guides for the service,
  10. To support the development of patient information leaflets, increasing health literacy of patients with drug hypersensitivities by providing age-appropriate and culturally appropriate information..
  11. To work on pharmacy based audit/QI projects to maintain IQAS accreditation
  12. To work with allergy nurses to ensure CD controls are legal and aligned to Trust guidance
  13. To liaise with community services re drug supplies including community pharmacy colleagues
  14. Contribute to the Pharmacy Department Senior Technician Operational rota, providing support to our three hospital sites
