Critical Care Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist
Band 7: (£41,659- £47,672)
Hours: 30 hours per week
8.00am-8.00pm over seven days dependent upon service needs and priorities. Flexible working and compressed hours considered if meets service need.
Reports to: Therapy Clinical Team Leader
- The post holder will work with therapy staff within the Critical Care Service using highly developed specialist knowledge, and evidenced based practice, across both critical care units.
- The post holder will be responsible for the assessment and treatment of complex, critical care patients using enhanced clinical decision making skills including experience in supportive ventilation, highly dependent respiratory care, acute rehabilitation, chest x-ray interpretation and tracheostomy skills.
- UHL Therapy service provides key therapeutic assessments and interventions to patients in order to promote health and independence and facilitate optimum function for patients.
- The post holder will be accountable for the delivery of high quality therapy care within critical care.
Main duties of the job
Due to an increase in our ECMO provision we have an exciting new opportunity within the University Hospital of Leicester NHS Trust Critical Care Physiotherapy team for the appointment of a Critical Care Clinical Specialist Physiotherapists based at the Glenfield Hospital.
This post will work alongside our increasing therapy team, existing clinical specialist physio and advanced practitioner physiotherapist to deliver high quality care to our patients and assist in increasing the research outputs and quality improvement projects delivered at Glenfield hospital.
As a tertiary centre for cardiac and thoracic surgery, as well as an ECMO centre, the post holder will be leading a highly specialist and innovative service, with support from the advanced clinical practice physiotherapist and the MDT. You will be driven, motivated and able to work with others to strive for clinical excellence to enhance further development within a well established service.
The successful post holder will be based at Glenfield Hospital. Flexible working requests will be considered and alongside our existing team we will be looking at how we can provide an enhanced service to our patients over extended working patterns.

- Provide clinical and professional leadership to Physiotherapy (PT) or Occupational Therapy (OT) colleagues in the speciality area.
- Lead evaluate and develop clinical practice within a specialty ensuring compliance with national and local guidelines and frameworks
- Be responsible for the clinical standards, evidence based practise and quality metrics within the speciality
- Work as an autonomous practitioner to provide specialist therapy assessments, diagnose and develop individualised treatment programmes based on the patients needs, using advanced clinical reasoning skills
