Main duties of the job
We have a vacancy for a full time Band 5 Physiotherapist within the Early Supported Discharge (ESDS) team based at Leicester General Hospital. This is a static post that is part of the UHL stroke pathway, working with stroke patients as they leave hospital and providing rehabilitation for them in their home environment.
The ESDS team is a very supportive, highly praised team made up of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Stroke Specialist Nurses, a Clinical Psychologist, Therapy Support workers, along with admin and consultant support. The team are based at the Leicester General Hospital site but work across the counties of Leicestershire and Rutland delivering intense rehabilitation to the patients in their own homes for up to 6 weeks. Weekend shifts are worked on the acute stroke unit at Leicester Royal Infirmary which provide opportunity to maintain your acute assessment and treatment skills.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about working with Stroke patients and providing excellent care to patients and their carers in a creative client focused manner. In return we will provide a comprehensive induction at local and trust level, annual appraisals and regular supervision sessions, lots of training on a 1:1 basis with a senior stroke specialist physiotherapist and In service training relevant to your role. There are also opportunities for attending external training courses and spending time with other specialist teams across UHL. As you develop your skills we will give you opportunity to share these through spending time with students and newly qualified staff and inducting new staff to the team. If you are a new graduate you will benefit from a 12 month preceptorship package.
The successful candidate must have a drivers license and daily access to a car that can be used for work purposes. Mileage costs will be recompensed at the NHS national rate.
