CLINICAL FELLOW/ST3+ VASCULAR SURGERY

The closing date is 30 June 2025

Job summary

Vascular Surgery Clinical Fellow/ST3+

This is an exciting opportunity to consolidate clinical skills in a centre with a strong track record of research and training. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated trainee seeking a long-term career in Vascular Surgery.

The post is clinically orientated and intended for trainees to gain either additional clinical experience prior to obtaining an ST3 post in Vascular Surgery, to spend a period of time out of programme in an alternative training environment or to consolidate clinical skills prior to taking up a consultant level appointment.

This post will be for a period of 12 months in the first instance, renewable subject to satisfactory performance.

The Leicester Vascular Surgery Unit is the largest and busiest unit in the East Midlands, delivering a secondary and tertiary vascular surgical service to a population in excess of 1.5 million. We have a reputation for excellence in clinical training and research. The Unit has a good in-house clinical training programme to which trainees and consultants are invited, as well as access to the joint Midlands Vascular Training programme

Main duties of the job

All fellows/ST3+ will participate in a prospective 1:8 non-resident 24-hour on-call rota. On weekdays from 08:00 to 17:00 the on-call fellow will be expected to provide registrar level care for the inpatients on the Vascular Surgery Unit at the Glenfield Hospital in conjunction with the Consultant on-call each day. The fellow on-call will also be the first point of contact for all vascular surgery referrals from other specialties across all 3 Trust sites from 17:00 to 08:00. They will be supported by the consultant on-call.

Fellows will be provided the same opportunities as ST trainees from the East Midlands Vascular Surgery Training Scheme and will work alongside these trainees to support the clinical service.

About us

Our new strategy, 'Leading in healthcare, trusted in communities' was developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners and is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
