Senior Clinical Fellow (IM3 or ST3+) Department of Diabetes & Endocrinology University Hospitals of Leicester

Minimum Criteria:MRCP Part 1 (Passed), UK Experience > 1 Month, Special Interest in Metabolic Medicine.

Primary Base:Leicester Royal Infirmary & Leicester General Hospital, Leicester Diabetes Centre

Department: Diabetes & Endocrinology

Rota:Full time with oncalls (Nights, Long Days, Weekends etc.)

You will be allocated a Clinical Supervisor, Educational Supervisor and be supported with your continued professional development.

You will receive the standard study leave and annual leave entitlement for NHS Doctors as per the contractual Terms and Conditions of Service.

You will be expected to work at the level of a middle grade registrar.

A supernumerary shadowing period of 4 weeks will be offered to overseas candidates, upon negotiation of appointment.

Main duties of the job

The responsibilities of the post are identical to that of an ST3 in Medicine.

This post will appeal to those who have completed SHO level training and wish to gain specialist Endocrinology and Diabetes experience before joining a specialty programme or those wanting to take time out of training to gain dedicated, specialist Diabetes and/or Endocrinology experience.

The main duties and responsibilities of this post are to

  • Ensure a safe and high standard of care of all patients
  • Participate in the running of the department/ward
  • Provide clinical supervision of Junior doctors on medical wards &/or in the on-call team
  • Provide senior medical input for the on-call Medical Team (especially Out of Hours) and potentially lead the cardiac arrest team
  • Assist with achieving the DOH Clinical Quality Indicators

The ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team is essential to this post. You will participate in operational and research projects and the teaching of the Senior House Officers, Medical Students, Nursing staff and other Ancillary staff.

Become involved with Audit, Quality Improvement and Research taking place in the Departments.

Contribute towards the Thyroid Shared Care Scheme.

Endocrinology in-reach for in-patients across the 3 main UHL sites, mainly at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Virtual advice and guidance support for General Practice.

Co-ordinate specialist MDT meetings across Endocrinology and Diabetes.

Teaching and training for post-graduate doctors, allied health care professionals and students.

Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary meetings.

Participate in out-of-hours General Internal Medical on-calls covering the admissions wards, Emergency Department in-reach and the medical wards at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital on a rotational on-call basis.

Co-operate with members of the personnel department when monitoring hours of work and other personnel issues.

Attend induction in each hospital or new department.
