ECMO Specialist

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust

The closing date is 01 April 2025

Job summary

Based at Glenfield Hospital (adult ECMO) / Leicester Royal Infirmary (neonatal, infant & paediatric ECMO)

We are looking for extremely enthusiastic, flexible & well motivated intensive care nurses to join our dynamic ECMO team to provide expert patient care and continuous surveillance & management of the extracorporeal life support system during clinical operations on our adult intensive care unit & paediatric intensive care unit.

Opportunities to work solely within adult ECMO or paediatric ECMO would be considered, alongside part-time and flexible working hours.

Now is the time to join, not only ICU, but UHL as we begin our reconfiguration. We look forward to you joining us on our journey.

Main duties of the job

There are two posts across the service - neonatal, infant & paediatric ECMO based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) and adult ECMO based at Glenfield Hospital (GH). Both areas are exciting and rewarding places to work. We have just been awarded a significant investment to expand our service, so this is a fantastic time to join our team and begin or continue your journey as a specialist nurse in ECMO.

The post holder will be an expert clinical practitioner, be required to work shifts, undertake conventional & mobile ECMO transport and be an enthusiastic integral member of our well established and committed team; providing and supervising the delivery of excellent quality care. The post holder will be responsive to the needs of patients, carers and the public and be an ambassador for this nationally designated service.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working within the critical care environment at band 5/6. A period of supervision and structured training & support will be available. You will be provided with the knowledge, skills & support required to nurse these challenging patients.

Please ensure you do have evidence of the required qualifications as you will be expected to present the certificates if successful.

About us

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
