Critical Care Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist

Main duties of the job
- To be responsible for the assessment and treatment of complex, renal, general surgical, Maxillofacial and ENT patients using enhanced clinical decision making skills.
- To be responsible for the physiotherapy service delivered to critical care with the help of the advance practitioner physiotherapist and other clinical specialists within critical care.
- To be responsible for weaning highly dependent complex critical ill patients with advanced skills in tracheostomy management, ventilation, advanced airway clearance techniques and chest X-ray interpretation, in both non-invasive and ventilated patients.
- To be responsible for providing early rehabilitation to critical ill patients in ventilated and non-ventilated patients.
- To be responsible in providing an up to date evidence base practice, auditing and research and leading the changes within critical care.
- To work with a variety of MDT within critical care to improve the outcomes of patients.
The successful post holder will be based at Leicester Royal Infirmary. Flexible working requests will be considered and alongside our existing team we will be looking at how we can provide an enhanced service to our patients over extended working patterns.

- Provide clinical and professional leadership to Physiotherapy (PT) or Occupational Therapy (OT) colleagues in the speciality area.
- Lead evaluate and develop clinical practice within a specialty ensuring compliance with national and local guidelines and frameworks
- Be responsible for the clinical standards, evidence based practise and quality metrics within the speciality
- Work as an autonomous practitioner to provide specialist therapy assessments, diagnose and develop individualised treatment programmes based on the patients needs, using advanced clinical reasoning skills
- To be responsible for a clinical caseload; which will include complex cases within critical care.
- Undertake an active role in developing and promoting Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy within critical care.
- Be responsible for the day to day management of the delivery of the Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy specialist team in an efficient and effective way within a fast and pressurized environment.
- Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy within critical care, holding responsibility for defined projects
