Specialist Pneumonia Intervention Nurse

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust

The closing date is 11 October 2024

Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic respiratory Nurse for a full time/ part time substantive position.

The two posts are based in the Specialist Pneumonia Intervention Nurse (SPIN) team at Glenfield Hospital.

The team is made up highly motivated Nurses who are focused on improving the patient management and pathways for patients who are receiving treatment for community acquired pneumonia (CAP) and service outcomes. We have a successful virtual ward for our CAP patients whom we monitor inline with the NHSE guidance of virtual wards.

We work as part of a wider team of Doctors, Specialist Nurses/Physiotherapists, ward nurse teams and some primary care providers. We hold a regular MDT to support our patients treatment plans and have links with both secondary and primary care settings.

We are an extremely supportive team and have been developing our role further to support patients both as an inpatient and within an outpatient setting with lots of career developing opportunities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of a team providing daily reviews for patients requiring treatment for CAP.

They will be expected to identify patients admitted with CAP, review management plans and ensure they are inline within UHL guidance and advise appropriately to the clinical teams involved with the patients care.

They will also be responsible for identification of suitable patients to be transferred to have care delivery under the CAP virtual ward and partake in the care required for ongoing monitoring and support during the patients recovery.

They will work proactively to improve the patient pathway to ensure the patient gets the right treatment, in the right place at the right time.

They will be a clinical expert in CAP management and support education and development for other staff, students, patients and family/carers to increase awareness and understanding.

They will be required to collect data for audit purposes and facilitate support in appropriate research.

About us

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
