Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Urology team for a waiting list coordinator.

This job is ideal for someone who enjoys a challenge and thrives on working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for the management of the waiting list for elective surgical procedures. Within this, you will help to coordinate the theatre lists and book in patients. Helping to fill last minute gaps in lists and enabling timely operations for cancer patients are just some of the day-to-dayresponsibilities.

Other responsibilities include, sending letters to patients asking them to get in touch if the team has been unable to get hold of them, booking pre-assessments and appropriate beds whilst also handling patient enquiries. It is vital to take into account the NHS guidelines and UHL policies; such as adhering to cancer and RTT pathway targets

Urology is a growing and thriving environment that has excellent opportunities for progression within the team with a variety of band 4/5 jobs to develop into over-time.

We are looking for someone who is an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills who can acknowledge the pressures throughout the department to ensure that patients are admitted in a timely and efficient manner.

Main duties of the job

  • To ensure patient admission details are arranged in conjunction with agreed booking procedures, and patients informed by post or telephone. To ensure any cancellations are replaced as agreed with Consultants and inform theatres and wards etc.

  • Daily responsibility for making pre-assessment clinic appointments ensuring the completion of the appointment outcome within 24 hours of the clinic.

  • To schedule theatre lists as delegated by Consultant teams.

  • To ensure that any special equipment/requirements (eg ITU/HDU, foreign case notes, interpreters, scans, x-rays and prosthesis), are arranged for admission.

  • To liaise with ward staff/managers and patients on day of admission to ensure patients are informed of bed availability or cancellation/new date of admission.

  • To be responsible for producing and circulating weekly admission lists detailing the expected admissions to the wards, theatres, junior medical staff etc.
