UHL Interventional Radiology (IR) embraces the latest imaging technology. We are a dynamic friendly multidisciplinary team providing 24/7 support for trauma, vascular, renal, hepato-biliary, urology, oncology, obstetric and paediatric services.
We are proud to offer the very latest minimally invasive treatments in our interventional suite equipped with Canon Infinix/Alphenix, Siemens Artis Zee C-arm systems and our state-of-the-art 4.8 Million pound high-tech hybrid operating department with a Siemens Artis Zeego C-arm at its heart.
Following a recent £4.5 Million reconfiguration program, an additional Interventional Radiology suite at Glenfield has enabled support to a brand new hepatobiliary and Renal department.
UHL IR encourages extended roles and we have radiographers performing change of nephrostomy catheters, barium swallows and hysterosalpingograms.
Previous Interventional Radiology experience is desirable, but not essential as full training and support will be provided. Our training programme and comprehensive induction package will provide support to the successful candidate. There will be an expectation to take an active role in CPD in order to develop skills within this speciality. Depending on previous experience, the post holder will be required to start as a Band 5. Evidence based progression within agreed set timeframes will enable the successful candidate to progress to a Band 6 post.

Main duties of the job
This is primarily a clinical role with a degree of first line management appropriate to address service needs. The post-holder will be primarily based in Interventional radiology, providing leadership and specialist expertise within the area and may be required to work in other areas/modalities as part of a rota.
This is a development role with an expectation to reach a level of seniority. Depending on level of experience at entrance, the post-holder will initiate as a Band 5. Completion of a development package will qualify in gaining a Band 6 position.
Following an extensive preceptorship programme, the post-holder will be expected to deliver a high quality, effective and efficient radiographic service to the highest professional standards. The role is to provide clinical excellence and manage the day to day organisation of the area whilst providing effective and efficient leadership.
The core service hours are 08.30 - 17.00, Monday - Friday. Part-time hours will be considered. There is in an on call commitment which works out to 3 or 4 on calls per month. This post would involve rotation through all 3 UHL sites. We have a day case unit at each site and provide care for a variety of inpatients.

- Maintain a high level of clinical expertise
- Participate in department shift system and/or out of hours roster
- Participation in rotation through all 3 UHL sites
- Perform technical administrative tasks, including accurate patient information, examination details and post processing requirements on the Radiology Information and PACS systems. This will include fixing up of images on the PACS system when required.
- Encourage and practice Get it Right First Time radiography and strive to achieve quality assurance in all aspects of the radiology service.
- Responsible for the care and comfort of the patient whilst they are in the Radiology Department respecting their privacy, dignity, religious and cultural beliefs.
- Work closely with the Superintendent Radiographers to provide optimum patient care and constantly seek ways of improving standards and performance.
- Ensure knowledge of the equipment and utilise it in a safe and efficient manner according to protocols.
- Ensure that a quality assurance programme for all equipment is implemented and maintained, ensuring quality assurance has been performed following servicing, repair and installation. Ensure that corrective actions are taken as required. Records must be kept and filed appropriately.
- Ensure the highest standards of radiation protection for staff, patients and visitors and to ensure a safe working environment in respect of other health and safety issues.
