We have four primary goals:
- high-quality care for all,
- being a great place to work,
- partnerships for impact, and
- research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
- we are compassionate,
- we are proud,
- we are inclusive, and
- we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.

Job description
Job responsibilities
To work clinically within the MIAMI Unit as a General Practitioner and be comfortable in seeing patients who can be more unwell than those who self-present to community services.
Provide a full consultation, while recognising that patients attending ED will have a higher risk of serious illness than those attending GP surgeries, therefore to utilise investigations (blood, X-Ray) appropriately and hand on to ED senior doctors if a patient is more complex than initially thought.
Patients can have had an initial nurse assessment, a set of observations, and results of investigations ordered by the nursing staff (FBC, U&E, X-Ray) so that an assessment of the suitability of the patient for a GP is more robust.
To follow the normal ED practices for handing over/delegating treatments or further assessments to maintain senior doctor efficiency.
To be familiar with the roles of other key staff e.g. registrars, consultants, nurse in charge, Emergency Care Practitioners, Emergency Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Nurse Practitioners.
To work speedily, be able to prioritise, and make rapid discharge decisions where appropriate, being mindful that MIaMI is recorded on the 4hour time to discharge pathway.
To be available and visible at all times apart from rest breaks.
To work within ED and MIAMI policies for clinical and operational pathways (the ED Standard Operating Policies).
To work within ED and UHL policies for prescribing.
To write medical notes in similar detail to an ED senior doctor via Nervecentre.
To have an active role in maintaining positive relationships with medical practitioners in the ED and Primary Care within Leicestershire, and other parts of the unscheduled care system.
GPs will not be requested to work in the Resus Room/Red Majors.
