Job summary

To assist the qualified staff in the Radiotherapy Department in the daily care of patients, and efficient running of all the units. Duties will entail both clinical and administrative, but of a non-technical nature.

To be responsible and accountable for the provision of a high quality and efficient Reception service for the radiotherapy department.

To provide a confident and courteous service to patients, carers, and relatives, and all members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To be able to convey and receive messages accurately and in a timely fashion.

To be able to deliver notes/x-rays/specimens etc. between the areas of work in the Radiotherapy and associated departments.

To act as a chaperone and escort for patients between Radiotherapy and associated departments according to patients needs as deemed appropriate by qualified staff.

To assist in all clinical areas as required, including taking patient observations

To undertake administrative duties, including filing, distribution of mail, booking of appointments as requested by qualified staff.

Support efficient service delivery and implementation of new developments

Actively engage in projects within the department

To update the Aria data system with relevant patient data, ensuring the Radiotherapy Planning and Treatment areas are kept informed of patients arrival and subsequent movements within the department.

To be a first point of contact for all telephone enquiries to the department, redirecting as necessary, and ensuring urgent enquiries are fast tracked to the appropriate person.

To respond to all patient enquiries in the reception area, evaluating and dealing with them appropriately, ensuring urgent issues are fast tracked to the appropriate person.

To be aware of the needs of the patients in the waiting area and bring to the attention of the radiotherapy and/or nursing staff concerns regarding patients well-being as appropriate.

To organise collection and distribution of prescriptions on the authorisation of nursing staff.

To organise ambulances and keep records of patients arrival and departure.

To organise and liaise with voluntary drivers when required due to service needs.

To book porters and PSAs to transport patients within the department and LRI.

To ensure case-notes and x-ray packages accompany patients when returning to wards and other hospitals.

To organise the provision of refreshments for patients.

To order and maintain stocks of beverages for patients.
