We have an exciting opportunity to join the Information Management and Technology department at the University Hospitals of Leicester as a Project manager.

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our established team and help deliver projects to supportthe e-Hospital agenda.

As a project manager in IM&T, you will be working closely alongside the Business Analysts and Solution Architects ensuring smooth delivery of an agreed programme of works that digitally enable the healthcare provision across our Acute hospital services and the wider Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Community.

Main duties of the job

The Project Manager role is within a team of 8 Project Managers who work on a wide variety of projects within IM&T. Our projects typically involve application changes most notably working within the e-Hospital programme. The post holder will be working closely with a wide range of stakeholders within IM&T, Clinical Services and External Partners and Suppliers.

The E-Hospital programme is one of the UHL's supporting priorities and is an ambitious programme to transform the way in which our clinicians work. We are working with a primary supplier to achieve this goal and have already achieved a number successful implementations.

The team is diverse and focused on their achieving the ambitious plan and we are looking for someone who is able to work with a wide range of personalities and perspectives to ensure a successful outcome of the programme.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. To manage multiple projects within IM&T delivering to the requirements defined
  2. To ensure that projects are delivered seamlessly along complete care pathways between healthcare sectors to avoid silo working and retrospective project alignment.
  3. To have knowledge of a variety of project management methodologies and to utilise them appropriately to deliver projects successfully whilst making most effective use of funds and resources
  4. To ensure governance and documentation arrangements are followed within the projects and they are governed through a project board which must receive timely and accurate reports of project progress.
  5. To be responsible for the management of project funds and report on expenditure to the relevant boards where applicable
  6. To work with the IM&T PMO, Commercial Lead and PMO IM&T Senior Project Manager to ensure effective project controls and assurance
  7. To ensure that benefits are captured during the project so that they can be quantified at project closure.
  8. To ensure that BAU considerations are considered throughout the project and that the project is successfully transitioned to BAU support at the completion of the project
  9. To work in partnership with the IM&T staff to ensure effective use of operational resources on projects.
  10. To be accountable for the activities of the staff within your project team whilst maintaining a supportive and inclusive team working environment with opportunities for staff to show case their skills and expertise.
  11. To work with key stakeholders within in-flight projects to maintain good communication and engagement helping to remove barriers to change or success.
  12. To work with other project manager colleagues within IM&T to maximise the use of project staff to ensure that their skills are efficiently used between projects.
  13. To represent UHL at specific external regional / national forum with respect to the National Program of IT or similar IM&T initiatives specifically related to the project/product.
  14. To represent the interests of the customers at programme/project delivery meetings and other such like forum.
  15. To engage with and influence the implementation IM&T transformation initiatives and IM&T Strategy where appropriate

  • Degree level education or equivalent
  • Qualified to degree level with a high proportion of IT content or equivalent skills or experience in NHS IM&T.
