Job summary
This post is at the level of an Internal Medicine Doctor. The postholder will report to the Director of Health Equality and Inclusion and Clinical Director for Emergency and Specialist Medicine. The role will be divided between dedicated fellowship time and clinical practice in General or Medicine and will focus on development of HEE's Enhance Programme and Health Inequalities. The post also includes opportunities to partake in an on-call IMT rota covering medical wards at LRI and the Acute Medicine and Ambulatory Assessment Areas (GPAU). This will appeal to those who have completed Foundation level training and are wishing to pursue a career in one of the Medical Specialties.
This Fellowship is part of the Health Education England Fellowship programme and the successful applicants will be enrolled in HEE's Fellowship Development Programme. This includes attendance at 4 HEE led development days and up to
£4000 of HEE funding for each appointed Fellow to support development activities (for example a PGCert, but to be agreed between the Fellow, Project Supervisor and HEE). The Fellows will be encouraged to submit work to conferences and will be supported to attend and present their work where relevant.
Main duties of the job
All posts have a service element and the following covers the majority of duties. There will be minor variations in different hospitals but the list is aimed at covering the majority of duties:
- Liaise between nurses, junior doctors, patients, relatives and senior medical staff.
- Attend and participate in ward rounds as timetabled.
- Take part in timetabled Emergency work.
- Perform basic medical procedures including Lumbar Puncture, Abdominal Paracentesis and Ascitic drain insertion with indirect supervision.
- Dictate discharge summaries.
- Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions.
- Teach medical students as directed.
- Co-operate with members of the personnel department when monitoring hours of work and other personnel issues.
- Attend induction in each hospital or new departmet
- Comply with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave
