Job summary

University Hospitals of Leicester is seeking a passionate and dedicated Digital Midwife to play a pivotal role in the exciting project of transforming maternity digital systems infrastructure.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a specialist midwife with a keen and enthusiastic approach to contribute to shaping the future of maternity care through innovative digital solutions.

The post holder will collaborate closely with the digital maternity team to fulfil the digital requirements of the UHL maternity services. Responsibilities include ensuring continuous utilisation of the maternity electronic patient record systems, conducting data quality audits and overseeing the collection and analysis of data from the maternity information system (MIS), E3.

The digital midwife is tasked with engaging both clinical staff and system suppliers to ensure that the service's requirements are effectively addressed. This includes ensuring that the MIS remains capable of facilitating accurate and relevant data collection, to enable reporting to NHS England.

Main duties of the job

In this Band 7 Digital Midwife role, the main duties typically include a combination of clinical, managerial, and digital responsibilities. While specific duties may vary based on the needs of UHL, here is an outline of key responsibilities:

  • Oversee the maintenance of digital systems used in maternity services, ensuring collaboration with clinical staff and system suppliers to amend/update the systems where required

  • Provide leadership in digital projects where transformation requires specialist knowledge of the current maternity digital systems

  • Develop educational materials and provide training to staff on the use of new and existing digital solutions

  • Monitor the use of the maternity information system and provide audit reports to evidence compliance to local and national data standards

  • Oversee monthly data reporting to NHS England via the Maternity Services Data Set (MSDS)
