Job summary
Tissue Bank Coordinator Band 5. Permanent position
Are you looking for a new career that's exciting and unusual?
Would you like to join a tissue transplant unit helping to provide transplantable human tissues both locally and nationwide?
The Leicester Bone and Tissue Bank based at Glenfield Hospital since 1989 currently provides bone and human heart valves. We are currently undergoing expansion and opening a new cornea transplant service.
We need to recruit an enthusiastic person who is willing to learn new procedures, and master new knowledge and skills to help support and develop our services. This is an unusual opportunity to pursue your own career development in the fascinating world of human tissue transplantation.
Experience in this field is not necessary as training will be given. Experience within an NHS setting would be an advantage.
Main duties of the job
The Leicester Bone and Tissue Bank procures, stores, tests, and distributes human tissue for UHL and other hospitals throughout the UK. This includes femoral heads, human heart valves, tendons, bone struts and corneas.
The Leicester Bone and Tissue Bank has recently set up a new cornea storage bank in conjunction with UHL's Ophthalmology Department at the LRI.
The post holder will be a key member of the team and assist in the delivery of a quality driven, cost effective, patient focused service consistent with Trust objectives. To provide that service in a manner commensurate with the profession.
About us
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
- high-quality care for all,
- being a great place to work,
- partnerships for impact, and
- research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
- we are compassionate,
- we are proud,
- we are inclusive, and
- we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
