Job summary

Are you looking for a clinical leadership development opportunity and a new challenge? Are you an ambitious, enthusiastic and strongly motivated Dietitian with a proven record in paediatric dietetics and clinical experience in inherited metabolic disorders (IMD)? Then this opportunity may be for you. There is the option to apply for either a band 7 to 8a training role or a band 8a role.

The band 8a role has a level of practice characterised by a high level of autonomy and complex decision-making, under pinned by a MSc level award or equivalent that encompasses the four pillars of advanced practice: clinical practice, management and leadership, education and audit/research, with demonstration of core paediatric and IMD clinical competence.

Depending on your level of experience and qualifications there are two routes available to you for the band 7 to band 8a trainee route.

  1. ACP e-portfolio route you would work at band 7 level whilst completing your portfolio of evidence. This is dependant on having a masters degree and IMD Dietetic experience, and being accepted via the e-portfolio route.
  2. ACP apprenticeship - by undertaking the level 7 ACP apprenticeship programme in conjunction with one of our local Higher Education Institution Universities.

The successful applicant can progress to the band 8a role on completion of the ACP training. The Trust is committed to the development of ACP's as part of its workforce strategy for the future.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced, motivated and proactive team player with excellent communication skills to undertake this specialist role.

You will work as a core and valued member of the Paediatric IMD MDT which covers the areas of Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR).

You will be part of a highly regarded and friendly paediatric and neonatal dietetic team which is currently going through a period of expansion due to additional investment. The team is supported by a dedicated Paediatric Dietetic Assistant and a Team Leader.

There is a need for excellent communication and organisational skills and a proactive working style, enablingyou to think "outside the box", which equips you to work effectively with patients, carers and a wide range of health and non-health professionals in both the hospital and community. You will also require good all-round IT skills.

The Nutrition and Dietetic Service in University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust has a team of over 70 staff including Dietitians, Nutrition Nurses, Dietetic Assistant Practitioners, Dietetic Assistants, and support team staff providing local, specialist and tertiary referral services.

Due to recent additional funding and growth in the paediatric IMD caseload, a rare but exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Paediatric Dietitian to work within the Specialist Metabolic Team at Leicester Childrens Hospital based at Leicester Royal Infirmary. The successful applicant will work alongside experienced band 7 Senior Specialist Dietitians, rotational band 6 Senior Dietitians and a dedicated band 4 dietetic assistant practitioner.

To be a key member of the neonatal and childrens dietetic team, which is part of our large Dietetic and Nutrition Service. The post is based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI), UHL NHS Trust.

To be responsible for the provision of a high quality, evidence based, effective Paediatric Inherited Metabolic Disorders (IMD) dietetic and nutrition service to patients under the care of the newly expanded Paediatric IMD service at UHL NHS Trust.

To work as a core dedicated member of the tertiary multidisciplinary paediatric IMD team in UHL NHS Trust. The paediatric IMD UHL service covers Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR).

To provide expert advice and support to the parents/carers or families of children under the care of the paediatric IMD team. To act as an expert resource on paediatric IMD and advise other dietitians and health care professionals on nutrition and dietetic matters (local and national). To deliver training and supervision to the band 6 rotational Senior Dietitian designated to paediatric IMD.

To achieve competency as an advanced clinical practitioner within the dietetic speciality of Paediatric IMD.
