6 month fixed term Specialty Doctor in Breast Surgery - March 2023
The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Specialty Doctor 6 month fixed term in Breast Surgery to cover long term sickness.
The post is for a Specialty Doctor within Breast Surgery on a fixed term 6 month contract in the Musculoskeletal and Specialist Surgery CMG (MSS) with the majority of the Breast Surgery services being based at the Glenfield Hospital within the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
This post is to cover long term sickness and to join the recent service expansion and reconfiguration in Breast Surgery. The post holder will be working alongside the current members of the Breast Surgery team offering Specialist Breast Surgery within UHL, including Breast Reconstruction, based at the Glenfield Hospital.
This post involves flexible working including evenings and weekends where needed, with appropriate notice given. This will be discussed at interview with further details.
Applications are therefore invited from suitably qualified candidates for the above post. This post is based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, with some cross site working included.
The successful candidate will be expected to undertake management of patients requiring a wide range of Breast Surgery and multidisciplinary care and to work in liaison with Consultants within the department.
Main duties of the job
- To provide operative Breast Surgery services at the University Hospitals of Leicester.
- To provide Breast Surgery services by way of outpatient clinics and outpatient procedure lists at the University Hospitals of Leicester.
- To work flexibly and cooperatively with the other consultant surgeons to maximise the utilisation of outpatient procedure lists and outpatient clinics.
- To ensure the provision of good standards of practice and care as described in the GMC Guidance 'Duties of a Doctor' are followed at all times; and that bad practice is reported.
- To ensure that clinical practice is both effective and efficient and that appropriate monitoring of clinical care takes place.
- To work with the Clinical Management Group (CMG) team to ensure that services are delivered efficiently and reflect best practice with processes and governance to match - this may require new and flexible ways of working in the future.
- To provide continuing responsibility for the care of patients under their care and for the proper organisation and functioning of clinical practice.
- To work closely with other specialties, departments and outside agencies to deliver the objectives of the department and the CMG.
- To take responsibility for ensuring that critical clinical incidents, as defined in the Trust's 'Critical Incident Policy', are reported in a timely manner.
- Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
About us
Supporting Professional Activity (SPA)
It is expected that most Specialty Doctors within the Trust will have up to 2.5 PA's for Supporting Professional Activities (SPA).
1.5 PA's are allocated as a minimum to all for SPA in order to support the requirements of revalidation which include activities such as participating in audit, CPD and mandatory training.
