Job summary
We are currently looking for a new Tracheostomy Specialist Nurse to join our ENT/Head and Neck team. If you are competent and confident in looking after patients with tracheostomies this could be an exciting opportunity for you.
The team works with patients with both acute and long term airway issues from Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The Tracheostomy Specialist Nurse along with the Lead Nurse are responsible for managing both inpatients within the trust with tracheostomies as well as a caseload of approximately 70 patients living in the community with long term tracheostomy needs.
Candidates need to be enthusiastic and motivated nurses with previous tracheostomy experience. ENT/ Head and Neck experience is desirable. Teaching skills are essential as the Tracheostomy Specialist Nurse will not only provide teaching to staff but also plays a vital role in teaching patients and family members how to care for their tracheostomies at home.
The successful candidate will be supported with both education and continuing professional development.
Main duties of the job

The purpose of the post is to provide expert specialist clinical nursing practice for both inpatients and outpatients using evidence based practice in line with current research and guidelines

They will ensure that patients and their families are fully informed and supported. The post holder will liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinary team when required to ensure delivery of reliable high quality care.

Ear, nose and throat (ENT) covers a multitude of conditions from Meniere's and tinnitus to glue ear, nasal polyps, laryngitis and much more.

Our ENT Department provide comprehensive and specialised care covering both medical and surgical conditions related not just specifically to the ear, nose and throat, but also other areas in the head and neck region.

We deal with all aspects of ENT from minor procedures such as putting in grommets to major complex head and neck surgery for patients with cancer.

Our dedicated team provide professional and friendly health care to adults and children of all ages. The department liaises with the Speech and Language Therapy team within the hospital when necessary.

We havea Hearing Services department that looks after paediatric and adult patients who are hard of hearing. The serviceprescribes NHS hearing aids and runs rehabilitation programs for patients who have tinnitus and balance issues.
