Job summary

We are looking for two motivated Physician Associates (PA) to join our Urology team at the University Hospitals Leicester (UHL) in a permanent full time capacity. One role will be primarily to support our stone service and the other to support our Andrology and Prostate service.

Our department has a supportive group of consultants, registrars and other staff who would assist you in transitioning into this rewarding position. In addition PAs have been employed in other departments of the UHL for many years providing a stable PA network and making the Trust a generally PA-friendly environment.

Department-based educational opportunities are available. We encourage PAs to be involved in supporting and help develop training opportunities in Urology.

You must be a member of the Physician Associate Managed Voluntary Register (PAMVR), and will be expected to maintain your membership and CPD requirements.

Main duties of the job

  • Post holders must be a graduate of a recognised Physician Associate (PA) training programme and must be registered (and maintain registration) on the PA Managed Voluntary Register (PAMVR) and subsequently the appropriate statutory regulating body, when in place.

  • These full-time, substantive post holders will work under the direction of consultants and specialty trainees, working collaboratively with members of the clinical team within the Trust's policies and clinical guidelines. The roles will focus on working with stone, andrology and prostate surgeons in the Department. Job plans will be weighted towards streamlining the stone, andrology and prostate pathways . You will be expected to review pre and postoperative patients on the ward and be part of the cancer MDT team.

  • Will contribute to patient care and will need to exercise a high level of professional judgement. This includes taking medical histories, undertaking physical examinations, diagnosing and explaining conditions during consultations.

  • Will exercise an appropriate degree of personal autonomy when assessing, managing and planning care for a caseload of patients; whilst knowing their limits.

  • Will develop extensive specialist knowledge and experience in the relevant specialty, acting as a resource to the clinical team and allied health professionals.

  • Will contribute to the teaching and training of other PA's, other clinical professionals and students.
