Consultant Endocrinologist
Applications are invited for whole-time substantive consultant in Endocrinology.
This is a replacement post, which will enhance the current establishment of NHS and academic staff of the Department of Endocrinology.
This Teaching Hospital NHS Endocrinology Post is to join the three existing dedicated Endocrinologists at Leicester Royal Infirmary to help run the specialist secondary and tertiary Endocrine Services in Leicestershire. This post has no commitment to diabetes or base ward general medicine and there is scope for the development of sub-specialty clinics, teaching and research depending on the candidate's interest.
Applicants must already be on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of the interview date have a certificate of completion of specialist training.
As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000 an enhanced disclosure by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)will be undertaken
The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit as well as research. They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team.
The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust consists of three acute teaching hospitals serving the population of Leicestershire. It is fully committed to Continuing Medical Education for consultants.
Main duties of the job
The appointment will be full time. Any consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work full-time, will be eligible to be considered for the post. There is the possibility of some sessions being from home if it is difficult for the preferred candidate to be in Leicester 5 days. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with consultant colleagues.
There is a mentorship scheme for all new consultant staff, this is designed to help and assist new appointees to settle into working at UHL as easily as possible. It is designed to assist individuals in a personal way to familiarise them with the Trust and how things work in practice.

The successful candidate will have training and specialist certification in Endocrinology & Diabetes Mellitus and General (internal) Medicine and will provide a safe and effective specialist Endocrinology service for UHL while participating fully in the acute general medicine service.
BACKGROUND
This is a permanent replacement post in the Endocrinology Department. The Department of Endocrinology sits within the Specialist Medicine Clinical Business Unit of the Trusts Emergency and Specialist Medicine CMG. The purpose of the post is to join Dr Narendra Reddy, Dr Miles Levy, and Dr Shailesh Gohil as our fourth committed endocrinologist thus continuing the delivery of a dedicated high class tertiary endocrinology service to the people of Leicestershire. It is anticipated the post holder will also take part in the acute medical take. There is no commitment to general medical wards or diabetes.
OTHER DUTIES
The successful candidate will be required to undertake managerial duties associated with the care of their patients and the running of their Clinical Department. Adequate consulting-office space and IT equipment will be made available within the LRI Department of Endocrinology. Adequate secretarial and clinic coordinator support will be provided. The successful candidate will participate fully in the Trusts annual Consultant Appraisal process.The successful candidate will be required to work in a multidisciplinary team and supervise juniors.
