Job summary
The post is for a Clinical Fellow (SpR grade) in Ophthalmology, with an interest in Neuro-Ophthalmology and Ocular Motility. This post is designed to provide higher sub-speciality training in Neuro-Ophthalmology surgery based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary within the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
This post does include Eye Casualty sessions, evening on call eye casualty session and you may be required to join the registrar on-call rota subject to service demands.
Main duties of the job
The Leicester Royal Infirmary provides the ophthalmology service for Leicestershire, a district with a population of over one million.
The candidate will be joining a team of 4 consultants and a Paediatric Fellow, along with a full Orthoptics team. The post is suitable for an ophthalmologist nearing the end of their training or already in possession of CCT. It offers post accreditation experience beyond traditional UK registrar rotations for ophthalmologists wishing to specialise in neuro-ophthalmology and ocular motility.
The successful candidate will work with Ms Samira Anwar, Miss Nagini Sarvananthan, Mr Stratton Tyradellis and Ms Claire Routledge. The candidate will be expected to make a substantial contribution to research and training in the department along with providing some emergency care.
About us
The new appointee will work alongside the Consultant Ophthalmologists to ensure a comprehensive and co-ordinated Ophthalmic Service. The Neuro-Ophthalmology and Ocular Motility Fellow will be appraised in their clinical role and advice and support for career progression will be available by the Clinical Director/Head of Service and Lead Clinicians.

- To work flexibly and cooperatively with the other Ophthalmologists to maximise the utilisation of theatre lists and outpatient clinics.
- To ensure the provision of good standards of practice and care as described in the GMC Guidance Duties of a Doctor are followed at all times; and that bad practice is reported.
- To ensure that clinical practice is both effective and efficient and that appropriate monitoring of clinical care takes place.
- To actively participate in audits.
- To work with the CBU management team to ensure that services are delivered efficiently and reflect best practice with processes and governance to match - this may require new and flexible ways of working in the future.
- To provide continuing care of patients and be responsible for the proper organisation and functioning of clinical practice.
- To work closely with other specialties, departments and outside agencies to deliver the objectives of the Division and Clinical Business Unit.
- To take responsibility for ensuring that critical clinical incidents, as defined in the Trusts Critical Incident Policy, are reported in a timely manner.
- To participate in yearly appraisal and job planning process.

- Full Registration with the GMC with a license to practice
