Job summary
This is an exciting opportunityfor someone with experience of nursing patients with a variety of cardiac conditions to join our team of cardiac specialist nurses and Advanced Clinical Practitioners on a busy cardiorespiratory Clinical Decisions Unit.
You will be supported to develop clinical expertise and knowledge in caring for patients with acute cardiac symptoms. You will gain skills in the assessment and management of patients in line with clinical guidelines, work autonomously when required and develop advanced ECG interpretation skills.
You will need to be able to prioritise your work and operate under pressure within an ever changing and challenging environment, thus contributing positively towards excellent patient care and the efficiency and effectiveness at the front door.

Main duties of the job
The role is primarily based in triage on a cardio respiratory assessment unit, comprising of referrals directly from the ambulance service, bed bureau, out patient services and ED. Within this role you will be responsible for assessing and prioritising patients that present with cardiac conditions, managing and escalating as appropriate, supported by the wider cardiac team.
The role also focuses on supporting patients in the ward area of the unit, assisting with cardiac procedures, administering specialist cardiac medications and supporting the nursing team to care for unwell patients.
Provision of both patient and staff education is vital to this role, including referral to wider cardiac services, providing formal and informal teaching as required.
As a cardiac specialist nurse you will be a clinical expert, role model and resource to the CDU team. Research and audit will be integral to the role.
