Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Exercise Physiologist to join the Cardiac Rehabilitation Team at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. This role would be suitable for recent graduates looking to enter into the area. The department has been delivering Cardiac rehabilitation for over 20 years and is a dynamic and progressive department actively engaged in national audit, accreditation and research.
Cardiac Rehabilitation is delivered across multiple sites; currently Glenfield Hospital, Leicester General Hospital, the National Centre of Sports and Exercise Medicine (NCSEM) at Loughborough University and local leisure centre venues. The Cardiac Rehabilitation Team also works with the Pulmonary Rehabilitation team to deliver a generic breathlessness rehabilitation programme and we are looking to expand our services to other sites within Leicester City. The successful candidate will be required to work flexibly across all sites and therefore a clean driving licence is desirable.
Candidates will have an interest in managing patients with cardiac disease; have a high standard of clinical skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You should be able to work independently as well as being an excellent team player and actively engage in departmental and service development of new and innovative clinical services
Main duties of the job
- Performing Functional Capacity Testing for variety of Cardiac patients
- Prescription of exercise for patients to follow in CR class
- Delivering exercise classes, including leading group-based warm up and cool down and resistance exercises
- Delivery of patient education sessions
- Supporting patients and relatives through recovery process
- Working as part of multi-disciplinary team to deliver high standard of care and to develop the exercise programme.

- Manage own patient caseload, ensuring that full, detailed and accurate documentation and statistical data is maintained to ensure the service is monitored and evaluated.
- Create and maintain effective working relationships with all staff to ensure good communication links to improve patient care.
- Develop links with community exercise referral schemes and local patient support groups, to improve the patient pathway.

- To introduce, promote and develop new techniques, idea and regimes within the service area, for the on-going development of the service.

- Undertake educational sessions for patients and also be involved with the on-going training and development of staff in the provision of Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
