Job summary

The Radiotherapy department of University Hospitals Leicester is excited to offer the opportunity for 2 x Band 6 rotational therapeutic radiographers to join our team.

The department is the host for the East Midlands radiotherapy network and has excellent transport links around the region and with the rest of the country. Being based at the Royal Infirmary site you will be within walking distance of the vibrant and historical city centre of Leicester.

Equipment includes 2 Varian Clinac iX linear accelerators with OBI, respiratory gating and RapidArc, 2 Varian TrueBeam linacs, ARIA Oncology management system, Prosoma Virtual Simulation, Varian Eclipse treatment planning system, 1 Canon and 1 GE wide bore CT scanners with 4DCT, XStrahl superficial unit and Varian GammaMed brachytherapy unit. A replacement programme to include 2 more Varian TrueBeam linacs is underway as well as the construction of a new brachytherapy suite.

We offer a wide range of modern treatments and techniques including deep inspiration breath hold for breast patients and SABR for both primary lung and oligometastatic disease.

This is an excellent opportunity to utilise your clinical and leadership skills for the benefit of the LLR patient population and for those patients from further afield.

Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible for the accurate preparation, planning and delivery of treatment by self and all members of the relevant team.

  • To organise and supervise the work schedules and patient management on a Linear Accelerator or CT Scanner on a daily basis.

  • To assist the Superintendent Radiographers in the daily management of the professional, efficient and effective provision of high-quality care.

  • To comply with all Trust and Departmental Policies, procedures and protocols, commenting and suggesting changes as necessary.

  • To ensure a patient centred approach to the radiotherapy service.

  • Work independently, or closely with the Band 7 radiographer, to coordinate the efficient, accurate patient focused planning and delivery of ionising radiation following evidence-based protocols.

  • Assist in the development of protocols, documentation systems, standards, policies, and clinical guidelines for use by the multi-disciplinary team, meeting the needs of an ever-evolving practice in terms of patient management.

  • Running the treatment unit smoothly and effectively and being able to prioritise daily tasks, taking into consideration the patients' needs and the capability of the team
