An exciting opportunity awaits the successful candidate to work as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at University Hospitals of Leicester. This post is full time but flexible/less than full time working patterns can be discussed.
UHL is one of the largest maternity units in the country and offers specialist services. The CMG provides secondary and tertiary level care, teaching, training and research in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. We are currently undergoing plans to reconfigure our service to become a single site unit. However, our service is provided over two sites and the successful applicant is required to work flexibly across both sites. Though this post is aimed at the general aspect of Obstetrics and Gynaecology involvement in clinical governance processes will be incorporated.
The successful candidate should have extensive experience in labour ward management and gynaecology practice with the ability to supervise and teach others to undertake complex obstetric deliveries and general gynaecology procedures. The RCOG ATSM in advanced Labour Ward Management is essential. The RCOG ATSM in Benign Gynaecological Surgery: hysteroscopy, Benign abdominal surgery: open and laparoscopic Acute gynaecology and early pregnancy or Advanced laparoscopic surgery for the excision of benign disease is highly desirable.

Main duties of the job
This appointment is suitable for candidates who have recently gained entry to the Specialist register via the CCT or CESR route or who would be eligible for a CCT in the next 6 months. This post has an emphasis on Obstetrics and incorporates a flexible Gynaecology component while contributing to service development and clinical governance.Post holders will participate in the on-call rota in Obstetrics.
Duties will include ward management (for both Obstetric & Gynaecological patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings). Leading and managing Gynaecology clinics, theatres or Gynaecology assessment Unit theatres. Exposure to antenatal clinics, postnatal wards and Delivery suite management would be expected.
Post holders will be given the opportunity to gain experience in aspects of clinical management, leadership and governance, including root cause analysis and business case development,focusing upon clinical leadership, governance and managerial aspects

- To perform elective obstetric and gynaecology lists and ward rounds and to provide prospective cover for these
- Undertake sessions in our Labour Wards i.e. participate in the hot week, and work closely with midwifery and other colleagues to engender a supportive and mutually respectful atmosphere.

- Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences.
- Supervise and train junior medical staff
- To be involved in appraising and assessing juniors.
- To proactively develop the service.
- Ensuring and maintaining competence in the management of obstetric and gynaecological emergencies

- Ensuring up to date mandatory training in keeping with Trust policy
