Job summary

Due to confirmation and development of a new Respiratory Support Unit (RSU) we are delighted to be able to offer a fantastic opportunity for staff nurses to join the Ward 20 team. This is a 28 bedded acute Respiratory ward providing level 2 care for respiratory patients, requiring high levels of respiratory support including NIV, long term ventilation, tracheostomy care, high flow and/or close monitoring. There will be facility to care for 16 level 2 patients, with theaddition of central monitoring; allowing for improved monitoring for Level 2 acutely unwell patients

We are looking for a motivated, caring and compassionate, forward thinking individual with a keen interest in caring and managing patients with chronic respiratory conditions and experiencing an acute exacerbation of symptoms including COPD, asthma, Type 1 & Type 2 respiratory failure.

Working with a supportive team on Ward 20 will give you the opportunity to gain experience, skills and confidence into the management of an acute respiratory patient.

We will offer teaching packages and support to complete competencies in tracheostomy care, NIV (Non Invasive Ventilation) and deteriorating patients. Some respiratory experience is advantageous, but not essential. All training and full induction will be provided. The Unit welcomesboth newly qualified and experienced Registered Nurses.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for candidates who are keen to develop professionally in this exciting domain of Respiratory medicine.

Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based nursing care. Actively promote and contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care. Actively participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members. Mentor, teach, assess, and support students and learners on placements in the clinical area and participate in the education, development and mentorship of other staff members. Act as a clinical and professional role model. Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.

A comprehensive induction package is offered by the ward staff supported by the education and practice development team based at the UHL academy on site. There will be an opportunity to work in the other respiratory services within the department in order to gain skills and experience. This includes the Asthma Service, Respiratory Physiology and the Respiratory Support Team.

Respiratory nursing gives you acute dynamic skills which are transferable. The Trust is a great place to work with on-going learning and support from the education team and the Respiratory Support Team.
