Job summary

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is pleased to offer an exciting role of a clinical fellow within the Complications-related Excess Weight (CEW) service which is a NHS England funded Tier 3 Paediatric Obesity service.

This full time post involves working within the NHS England commissioned multidisciplinary (MDT) service for children and young people with complications related to excess weight. The East Midlands CEW MDT comprises of 3 Consultants, dietitian, physiotherapist , physio technical instructor, Clinical support workers, clinical Psychologist, Clinical Nurse Specialist and a Social worker.

This post will be based at Leicester Royal Infirmary, which is one of the CEW MDT sites in the East Midlands with some cross-site working at the Nottingham hub.

We run 3-4 outpatient CEW clinics per month at Leicester which are currently run at the Merlyn Vaz Health Centre. We also run once monthly CEW spoke clinics at Kettering General Hospital. The post holder will work with the MDT involved in the clinical management of children and adolescents with severe obesity and related medical complications, and alongside other specialties (for example: Respiratory, Gastroenterology) to formulate clinical pathways, taking clinical queries from the spoke centres and advising on appropriate management. There will also be opportunities to strengthen clinical experience in Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to actively engage and take part in the MDT CEW clinics at Leicester and involve in the virtual MDT meetings with the Spoke centres. This will involve taking clinical queries, offering appropriate advice, developing clinical pathways, engagement in clinical/QI projects, data collection and analysis.

The post holder will also be expected to participate in governance activities such as audit quality improvement project or guideline development. The post holder will be encouraged to engage in clinical research projects and systematic reviews.

The post holder can also make use of opportunities to strengthen experience in clinical Endocrinology and Diabetes.

Leicester Children's Hospital provides paediatric services to just over one million residents of Leicestershire and Rutland. Tertiary services at the Leicester Children's Hospital also attract patients from further afield. All the general and specialist services are centralised on the Leicester Royal Infirmary site. The Leicester Children's Hospital currently manages around 130 beds and has a budget of over £35 Million. The Children's Hospital team includes more than 50 consultants and sees 13 000 new out-patients annually. The Children's Hospital manages 3000 day case patients and 12 000 emergency patients annually. The Children's Hospital forms part of UHL's Women and Children's Clinical Management Group (CMG).
