Trust Senior Corneal Fellow (ST3+)

Job responsibilities

• To provide Ophthalmology services at the University Hospitals of Leicester. A specialty interest in Cornea is required.
• To provide Ophthalmology services by way of Outpatient clinics and theatre lists at the University Hospitals of Leicester.
• To work flexibly and cooperatively with the other Ophthalmologists to maximise the utilisation of theatre lists and outpatient clinics.
• To ensure the provision of good standards of practice and care as described in the GMC Guidance Duties of a Doctor are followed at all times; and that bad practice is reported.
• To ensure that clinical practice is both effective and efficient and that appropriate monitoring of clinical care takes place.
• To actively participate in audits.
• To work with the CBU management team to ensure that services are delivered efficiently and reflect best practice with processes and governance to match - this may require new and flexible ways of working in the future.
• To provide continuing care of patients and be responsible for the proper organisation and functioning of clinical practice.
• To work closely with other specialties, departments and outside agencies to deliver the objectives of the Division and Clinical Business Unit.
• To take responsibility for ensuring that critical clinical incidents, as defined in the Trusts Critical Incident Policy, are reported in a timely manner.
• To participate in yearly appraisal and job planning process.
• To undertake Mandatory & Statutory training as determined by the Trust and Clinical Business Unit

Qualifications

Essential

• MBBS or equiv
• MRCOphth or equivalent
• Full Registration with the GMC with a licence to practice

Desirable

• Higher degree e.g. MSc, MPhil, MD etc or MRCP
• Within 6 months of registering for CCT from PMETB at the closing date.

Experience

Essential

• Corneal experience and skills Similar to a trainee within 6 months of CCT

Desirable

• Wider experience of Corneal ophthalmology than expected of a trainee within 6 months of CCT.

Ability/ Knowledge

Essential

• Understanding of ophthalmic basic sciences and the ability to apply this to clinical practice
• Good basic knowledge of ophthalmology

Desirable

• Previous publications demonstrating in depth understanding of clinical problems, audit or research.

• Ability to evaluate routine cases and interpret basic investigations
• Awareness of constraints, risks and potential complications of management
• Ability to record accurate and complete medical notes
