Are you currently working with patients who have a diagnosis of cancer, and wish to develop a career as a Clinical Nurse Specialist? We have a unique band 7, 9 months fixed term/secondment opportunity for a caring and compassionate nurse who wants to work in the field of neuro-oncology at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
As a key worker you will be responsible for providing holistic care to patients with brain cancer and their family throughout their cancer pathway. You will be able to offer treatment information, symptom control advice, psychological support and signposting to other services. You will be offering the opportunity for a personalised care plan to be created using a holistic needs assessment. The delivery of the care will be in clinic, on the wards and over the telephone.
Main duties of the job
You will work collaboratively with all health professionals involved in the patient's pathway within the UHL multidisciplinary team (MDT) including (but not limited to), Consultants, imaging services, clinical nurse specialists, research teams, acute oncology, specialist palliative care, ward nursing teams, and administrative teams, as well as with the MDT across the East Midlands.
You will be expected to play a supportive role in ensuring the team comply with local and national policy, clinical governance and quality surveillance. You will need to work independently within your role as well as in collaboration with the neuro-oncology cancer support worker (CSW). You will have line management responsibilities for the Neuro-oncology CSW.
In addition, the role will also provide relevant cross cover for the Sarcoma Clinical Nurse Specialist as required.
As a band 7 you will be expected to meet the essential criteria, possess the relevant post registration experience as outlined in the person specification.
