The Neurology Therapy service in University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) is delighted to offer an opportunity to work across the Specialist Neurology services at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.
We have 1 vacancy to work as a Therapy support worker. The location for this post is:
- 1 Full time Therapy Support worker post available at the LRI - Acute Neuro Ward
This post is available as the current Therapy Support Workers have commenced on their OT trainee apprenticeships supported by the Trust.
The post-holder will work alongside both the Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in a busy Acute Ward for patients with Neurological conditions and Specialist Level 1 Unit for patients with acquired brain injuries. They will be expected, when competent, to hold their own caseload of patients, completing assessments, devising treatment plans, carrying out that treatment and discharging those patients from the Therapy service. They will be expected to work alongside and liaise with the registered Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist.
Main duties of the job
This clinical area is busy, treating complex patients with a wide range of clinical conditions. Some patients are acutely unwell having been stepped-down from the Critical Care Unit or repatriated from QMC Nottingham following Neuro-surgery. There will be patients that have been admitted for further treatment and rehabilitation of their ongoing neurological condition.
The successful candidates need to be able to work well alone and also as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team. They need to have good communication skills both verbally and non-verbally. They need to be comfortable performing personal care tasks for patients and comfortable working with patients who have complex physical and psychological challenges.
The successful candidates will participate in local training to achieve all pertinent Support Worker Competencies within the first six months of employment into this role. We would expect that applicants have some previous experience of delivering Therapeutic treatments/ interventions for patients, particularly experience of either Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy interventions.
