You will be introduced to diagnostic tests such as: Home Sleep Studies, and WatchPAT. Actigraphy (3Night/4 Week), Pulse Oximetry, Polysomnography (PSG) & MSLT. The role involves the treatment of OSA. You will be trained to initiate CPAP therapy and the devices used to treat the disorder. While training to initiate CPAP you will also be introduce to the departmental processes of on-going monitoring and CPAP patient reviews.

As all staff are responsible for the ordering medical equipment and ensuring stock check is completed on weekly basis this will be discussed informally and any training with regards to ordering will also be provide.

Once you are deemed competent in the required you also will be involved in the teaching/orientation of new staff and regular audits are expected as part of this role.

Training will be done in house utilising established departmental guidelines and competencies which are based on the European Sleep Research Society (ESRS), American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) guidelines. Within 18 months of being appointed we would expect you to be signed off on all core competencies and all other competencies within 24 months.

Main duties of the job

Recognise, prioritise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.

Develop skills to collect, collate and accurately report patient information, maintaining complete and contemporaneous care delivery records.

Following guidelines meticulously during diagnostic tests: HSS. WPAT, Actigraphy, Pulse Ox, PSG, MSLT set ups

Following AASM guidelines and training during scoring (Analysis) of diagnostic studies

Running clinics in a timely manner as per guidelines and service requirements.

Initiating CPAP therapy. Ensuring that patients understand the purpose of the therapy. Demonstrating appropriate knowledge in relation to CPAP therapy.

Utilises effective communication skills to assist patients having queries regarding CPAP therapy and equipment, be it in person or over the telephone.

Responsible for maintaining and cleaning of EEG electrodes and PSG equipment for overnight and daytime tests. Wires up, performs patient bio - calibrations prior to patient's PSG/MSLT. Initiates, scores and prepares report for both PSGs and MSLTs as per ASSM guidelines.

Initiates Actigraphy studies as per Consultant Technologist

Manage day to day stock levels and storage appropriately and undertake stock takes as requested.

Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times and information relating to patient / users and personnel is used only in connection with authorised duties
