Job summary
Applications are invited for the post - Locum Consultant Nephrologist ICKD (10 PAs).This is an 18 month locum post to assist with the expansion of the service in relation to integrated chronic kidney disease care between primary and secondary care. As well as contributing to this exciting new project, the individual will work within the Renal and Transplant Service to provide clinical duties including care of in-patients with kidney disease, general nephrology outpatients, haemodialysis and on-call duties.
Main duties of the job
- To contribute to the development and clinical provision of the novel integrated chronic kidney disease service (approximately one day a week when appointee not providing inpatient care)
- To participate in monthly ward rota for inpatient care of a general nephrology ward (four months a year)
- To contribute to the "Low Clearance" clinic (weekly) and new patient clinic (frequency to be confirmed but between 1 in 2 and 1 in 4)
- To contribute to the care of approximately seventy outpatient haemodialysis patients as part of a haemodialysis unit's medical team.
- To participate in the consultant rotas for the nephrology service including consultant of the week (approximately 1 week in 10) and the on call rota out of hours and at weekends (1:8).
- To supervise and train junior medical staff.
About us
The service has a national and international reputation and has an active programme of clinical, laboratory and medical education research. The department has a philosophy of a multi-disciplinary approach to the care of patients with renal failure. There is a core group of experienced nursing and other health care professionals who are responsible for the planning and delivery of services to patients with renal failure.
The service acts as the tertiary referral centre for the East Midlands Renal Network for renal and kidney transplantation covering a population of approximately 2.2 million. The service covers Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, NW Anglia and Northamptonshire and there are additional renal consultants based at Kettering General Hospital, Northampton General Hospital, Lincoln County Hospital and Peterborough District General Hospital. Significant developments have taken place in the affiliated district general hospitals. There are satellite units at Boston, Hamilton, Kettering, Lincoln, Loughborough, Northampton, Peterborough, Skegness and Grantham which are managed by UHL
