Job summary
This post is suitable for international doctors who have trained in either Anaesthesia or Intensive Care Medicine in their country and are looking to further enhance their skills in Adult Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia. The post can be adjusted to individual requirements based on their training goals.
The appointment is whole time for 2 years.
There will be a probationary period of 1 month.

- IELTS score of more than 7.5
- At least 3 years full time postgraduate experience (Anaesthesia or Intensive Care Medicine).
- A minimum of 3 months intensive care medicine if an anaesthetist by training

Main duties of the job
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the posts of International Training Fellow (SpR/ST Grade) in Anaesthesia and/or Intensive Care Medicine at Leicester Royal Infirmary and Glenfield Hospital in Leicester.
MTI AICU/Anaesthesia Fellow
The successful candidates will work as an integral member of the Anaesthesia and AICU teams at the 2 sites that provide critical care in UHL: Glenfield Hospital and the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

The combined patient intake from the 2 ICUs in Leicester is approximately 2,700 per annum.
Anaesthesia training includes all the major sub-specialities: a busy maternity unit, Cardiothoracics, Paediatrics, Trauma, Maxfax, upper and lower GI, Vascular, Hepatobiliary, Renal transplant, ultrasound guided regional techniques etc.

The successful candidates will be expected to rotate between the Leicester Royal Infirmary and the Glenfield Hospital.
It incorporates resident on call within a trainee rota. The on call will vary depending on the site and experience/qualifications of the post holder. It may include first or second on call depending on trainee skill mix. The on call rota could be either in anaesthesia or AICU
Whilst on AICU, the daytime service consists of working within an integrated AICU team, led by a dedicated critical care consultant, delivering high quality day to day patient care. Assessment and management of patients referred from the medical and surgical wards, including busy emergency department at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and a medical emergency department at the Glenfield Hospital is a large part of the work. The successful candidate is expected to be actively involved with multi-disciplinary meetings such as microbiology, pharmacy, acute pain and nutrition ward rounds. Depending on qualifications, the successful candidate will be sign-posted to the appropriate teaching programmes and journal clubs. There will be opportunities to supervise more junior doctors, medical students and nurses.
When on the Anaesthesia block, the on-call activity will be in theatres and on the maternity unit when doing Obstetrics. Daytime activity will include patient assessment for anaesthesia, provision of anaesthesia and post-anaesthesia care.
