Applications are invited to join our enthusiastic , motivated Locum Consultant in Anaesthesia team at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. This is a full time post for 12 months with a review of becoming a substantive position.
Leicester Royal infirmary is one of the largest NHS Trust acute hospitals with a busy emergency department. There are opportunities for the successful candidate to deliver clinical care on emergency and trauma lists and gain further experience and expertise in a variety of specialities, including upper and lower GI surgery, maxillofacial and ENT, plastics and ophthalmology.
The successful candidate will support the current establishment of NHS and academic staff contributing to the on-call rota, and provide senior anaesthetic cover for elective and emergency surgery.
The work pattern offered is designed to give the appointee the best opportunity to develop their clinical/ non-clinical interests whilst most effectively supporting and contributing to departmental quality improvement activity and clinical supervision of postgraduate trainees in anaesthesia. All previous holders of this post have progressed to substantive positions, having developed expertise and leadership skills in their field of interest.
The department supports the curriculum delivery and the holistic development of trainees with a well-established leadership structure in education and training, including support for trainee leadership development.
Main duties of the job
This is a locum consultant anaesthesia post based within the Clinical Management Group of Intensive care, Theatres, Anaesthesia, Pain Management and Sleep (ITAPS).
Main duties of the role:
o To provide Consultant Anaesthetic cover for anaesthesia, elective and emergency surgery at UHL including preoperative assessment and postoperative care.
o Delivering a high quality anaesthetic service, supporting the department with a positive attitude towards flexible working.
o Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
o To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of patients.
o Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences.
o Supervise and train junior medical staff
o To be involved in appraising and assessing juniors.
o Teaching, research and administration.
o To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
o This role incorporates a non-resident on call rota, frequency of which will be dependent upon site.
