Consultant Dermatologist and MOHS Surgeon
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Dermatologist and MOHS Surgeon, based in the Department of Dermatology at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, part of the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.This post will be offered as a full time post (10PA) working both within UHL but with a session(s) also to be worked within the Alliance partnership which hosts the community elective care service. The Dermatology service is part of Specialty Medicine within the Emergency and Specialty Medicine CMG.The successful applicant will join an established team of 8 Consultants and an Associate Specialist providing a comprehensive range of dermatological services.
It is hoped that the applicant will add to this skill mix and will be supported to develop a specialist interest, which could be a MOHS Clinic.At present the department in Leicester is the main secondary care provider for its local population of 950,000. It is also the only recognised provider of specialist dermatology services within the wider East Midlands. Established specialist services include:o Cutaneous oncology (Leicester is the SSMDT for Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland, Northamptonshire and parts of Lincolnshire)o A regional Cutaneous Lymphoma serviceo Complex Dermatological surgery including Mohs micrographic surgeryo Allergic skin diseaseo Bullous disorderso Complex medical dermatologyo Paediatric dermatology

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be joining a team of consultants who provide a comprehensive secondary and tertiary service for patients with a wide spectrum of skin disease. The successful candidate will be expected to fully support the provision and future development of the skin cancer service. The development of other specialist services that complement and consolidate those already offered is desirable and will be encouraged. This includes dermatological surgery and consolidation of the complex medical dermatology and paediatric dermatology services but any subspeciality interests will be considered. There is also an expectation that the post will include a community session(s), particularly as there is every likelihood that provision of UHL dermatology services will increasingly be delivered from sites closer to patients' homes. Development of other novel ways of delivering patient care such as remote consultations via telephone or video-link will be encouraged and supported. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the supervision and training of Dermatology trainees and to the on-call rota and the care of dermatology in-patients.
About us
The Department of Dermatology is part of the Emergency and Specialist Medicine CMG within University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The Department has a Head of Service (Dr Karen Harman) who reports to the Clinical Director for Medicine (Dr Lee Walker) and is supported by a Head of Operations (Ms Julie Dixon).The Department of Dermatology is based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. Currently the Department occupies clinical space within the out-patient suite at the Leicester Royal Infirmary site. There are facilities for running clinics, a day treatment room, patch testing facilities, a phototherapy suite and procedure rooms for dermatological surgery, PDT etc.The service has access to beds on the acute medical wards at the LRI site.The department works closely with other allied services, particularly Dermato-Pathology, Plastic surgery, Clinical and Medical Oncology and Haemato-Oncology to deliver a comprehensive cutaneous oncology service. There are also well established links with the department of clinical allergy with in the Trust as well as the departments of Clinical Genetics, Genito-Urinary medicine, Urology and other medical specialties.
The Department collaborates with other centres in the East Midlands in the management of patients with a range of cutaneous oncological conditions, developing shared regional guidelines as well as hosting regional and super-regional service for patients with cutaneous lymphoma and penile cancer.

-Responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department;Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences;- To participate in service development and business planning in collaboration with the other Consultants in the department, the CMG and local GPs and commissioners within the local CCGs;- Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff including the observance of local employment and human resource policies and procedures;-Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally;-Participating in medical audit, the Trusts Clinical Governance processes and in CPD CPD is provided in job plans and attendance at audit and other governance meetings is mandatory; Managerial, including budgetary responsibilities where appropriate and compliance with standing orders and standing financial instructions of the Trust.;-In line with GMC Good Medical Practice it is the responsibility of the post-holder to ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the area of work.-The post-holder is expected to respond in a timely fashion to legitimate requests from Trust officers this might include investigations of incidents or complaints.-The post-holder is expected to participate in teaching and training of junior staff and other clinical staff groups. The appointee will also have supervision responsibilities for junior medical staff within the specialty. If appropriate the post-holder will be named in the contract of junior staff as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as an initial source of advice to such doctors regarding their careers.
