Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join a developing clinical service, Fit4Surgery, as we have secured additional funding to expand the current service. Prehabilitation is an emerging clinical speciality providing patient-centre care and utilising multi-modal interventions to support people to prepare both physically and emotionally for major surgery, usually for cancer.

The Fit4Surgery team is looking for an experienced exercise professional to contribute to the caseload management and ongoing development of this service. This post has the potential to develop and would suit a dynamic, motivated individual with a relevant background in either physiotherapy, exercise physiology or other relevant Allied Health Profession.

Main duties of the job

The Fit4Surgery team deliver interventions for people preparing for both major cancer and orthopaedic surgery. This role will primarily be based with the cancer prehabilitation service but the successful candidate may be required to work on either service.

The service comprises both face-to-face assessment & exercise sessions with home-based exercise. For the cancer service, we are working with patients both during neo-adjuvant chemo/radiotherapy and during preparation for surgery and the service offers exercise, dietetics advice and mental health support.

The successful candidate would be supported to undertake appropriate training and development opportunities.

The role requires travel across multiple sites and a flexible approach to working environment as the project utilises facilities at local authority leisure centres and the National Centre for Sports and Exercise Medicine (Loughborough University).

Service delivery is supported by the Perioperative Testing & Training Society (POETTS) accredited UHL Perioperative Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing Service which undertakes close to 500 tests per year.
