Based at Leicester Diabetes Centre, Leicester General Hospital as well as remote/home-working.

12 month Fixed Term contract

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, adaptable and highly motivated registered Healthcare Professional to work across the Implementation and Innovative Management Prevention And Care for long Term conditions (IMPACT) teams based at the Leicester Diabetes Centre. The Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC), based at Leicester General Hospital, is committed to growing international research, education and innovation, and is one of the largest facilities in Europe for conducting first class clinical research. It is also world-renown for both its healthcare professional and patient education programmes.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide high quality clinical leadership in the development, testing and refinement of complex interventions in the field of long-term condition prevention and management. Alongside this, they will also provide development and delivery in the training and quality assurance of facilitators in new interventions, as well as existing LDC programmes such as DESMOND. The post holder must work well on their own initiative, whilst also having strong leadership and mentoring skills.

Accredited DESMOND Educator status is not essential, but is highly desirable.

Job Summary The Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC), based at Leicester General Hospital, is committed to growing international research, education and innovation, and is one of the largest facilities in Europe for conducting first class clinical research.

The post holder will be expected to work closely with relevant staff, and extensively with the multidisciplinary research and implementation teams within the LDC, the wider University of Leicester, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, and Leicester Biomedical Research Centre. They will also be expected to work regularly with external collaborators, commissioners, provider organisation, and academic colleagues, external academic and industry collaborators.

Budget Responsible for oversight and monitoring of multiple project funds; to include tracking incoming funding and expenditure for externally funded projects, and monitoring/reporting on fund allocation. Spending projections, identify and report concerns and potential shortfalls. Liaise with Leicester Diabetes Centre staff regarding new projects and developments, identifying resource allocation issues. Responsible for ensuring all funding is received from collaborative partner organisations.

Staff Coordinate planned absence and oversee sickness leave records as required. Monitor absence trends and provide feedback to line manager and LDC Operations Management team. Manage junior staff on a day-to-day and planned basis as required. Promote co-operation and good team spirit and deal effectively with issues as required. Develop and maintain constructive relationships whilst reconciling or resolving conflict.

Policy Support other key LDC staff, in delivery of multiple LDC research initiatives and implementation projects to meet local and national guidance and operating procedures. Design, maintain and organise project and working group processes and procedures ensuring they remain efficient and user focused.

Assist with coordination of research and project funding submissions to deliver local and national translational research priorities.

Responsible for preparation and presentation of timely and accurate interventional materials, management information and reports, for local and national collaborative stakeholders.

Communications Assist in the dissemination of completed work and contribute towards seminars and professional conferences.

Establish, develop and maintain effective working relationships between relevant clinicians, practitioners and managers within the research speciality, locally, nationally and internationally.

Communicate and liaise with patient and user groups to incorporate user involvement and co-production in all areas of research and service development.

Develop a working partnership between the Trust, academic and support staff at local and external Universities and institutions.

Actively participate in local, national and international travel and networking to maintain and develop an expert level of knowledge in the speciality.

To increase research capacity and generate new income.
