Job summary

Patient administration underpins the patient journey and supports clinical teams in delivering high quality patient care and can make a real difference to the patient experience. Effective and efficient patient administration supports management through ensuring a high standard of data quality and by making the best use of capacity and resources. The Medical Secretarial Assistant is pivotal in achieving effective patient administration and supporting the Medical Secretary.

Main duties of the job

The Medical Secretarial Assistant:

Assists and supports the medical secretaries in providing an efficient medical secretarial service for the clinical team.

Assists and supports the medical secretaries in achieving targets including CQUINs and validation.

Assists and supports the Elective Access Clerk to provide an administrative service to the patient which supports the achievement of nationally and locally agreed access standards

Provides cover for colleagues in their absence to maintain service levels

As a Trainee Medical Secretarial Assistant, the individual will work towards the full job description outlined within this document. A robust training programme will be undertaken during the first 12 - 15months, which will include an accredited Business Administration Apprenticeship at Level 3 incorporating medical terminology, plus in-house training.

Upon completion of the training, the individual will be required to undertake the full duties of the role as outlined within this document.
