Job summary
The post will provide inpatient care to inpatients across the site, at present this is EAU and Harrowby Ward. These are mainly general medical and gastroenterology/respiratory/elderly patients.
The appointee will be expected, in conjunction with his / her colleagues, to provide a Middle-grade service for integrated medicine primarily at Grantham & District Hospital but it is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations or outreach district general hospital clinics. The post holder may be asked to move to the Boston or Lincoln site to support services there permanently.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be expected to undertake day to day care including history taking, examination, planning and chasing investigations and conducting all other ward duties on daily basis. The consultants conduct ward rounds where the appointee will be expected to present the patients and undertake clinical work generated by the ward round.
The Gastroenterology patients are currently situated on Harrowby Ward alongside other specialities (Respiratory, Health Care of Older People), the ward works closely with the Emergency Admissions Unit (EAU). There is an Endoscopy Suite located on site.
Training can be provided in Endoscopy and Gastroenterology according to service needs although this is not a training position.
The post holder will be expected to carry out teaching duties as required and take an active part in the Postgraduate Medical Education programme and in the teaching of all medical trainee staff and be involved in the education of nursing staff and other clinical professions as appropriate.
There is a requirement for the post holder to participate in resident General Medical on call, on a 1 in 8 basis with prospective cover.
