Job summary

We are looking to recruit onto our Band 5 Occupational Therapy rotation at Grantham District Hospital. We are seeking a motivated and proactive full time Band 5 Occupational Therapist join our team.

This post is a rotational post covering Elective Orthopaedics, surgery, General Medicine including the Emergency Admission Unit and The Hospice in the Hospital and there is also opportunities to a new multi purpose ward area home to Frailty SDEC patients . In addition there will be the opportunity to work in hand therapy clinics. This is a Trust wide contract but the successful candidate will based at GDH.

The successful candidate will be required to independently manage a defined caseload with indirect supervision from a Senior Occupational Therapist. They will support patients to achieve their individual goals enabling them to gain and/or maintain independence in their chosen occupational performance activities. They will be someone who is committed to meeting best practice standards and providing person-centred care.

The role will allow the successful candidate to develop a broad range of skills in both assessment and rehabilitation in a supportive team of Occupational Therapists. You will receive regular supervision and appraisal and actively encouraged to be involved in service development, audit and research. You will receive a comprehensive induction and there is a structured in-service training programme in place.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be required to support patients to achieve their individual goals enabling them to gain and/or maintain independence in their chosen occupational performance activities. Working as part of the Multidisciplinary Team the post holder will then assist patients in preparing for their discharge from the hospital setting into their identified place of discharge (e.g. home or community based rehabilitation settings) while taking into account their individual Occupational needs.

The department is a well-established team with Bands 3-8 working within inpatient, outpatient and closely with our Discharge to Assess and rehab partners in the community. There is plenty of opportunity to develop. The department offers an established in-service training programme, clinical supervision and support through preceptorship, performance development review & peer group support.
