Job summary

We are seeking a motivated, hard-working and committed individual to join the Orthopaedic team based at Lincoln County Hospital.

As a Secretarial Assistant, you will be responsible for daily audio typing of clinic letters, photocopying, answering the telephone to internal and external parties and working as part of a hard working team. You will utilise hospital based IT systems for correspondence and patient case note tracking.

You will be expected to have excellent interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Evidence of the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines PAS/Medway training & knowledge of Orthopaedics would be a benefit but not essential.

You must have a genuine interest in and commitment to providing excellence in customer care, possess excellent demonstrable secretarial skills to at least RSA II or equivalent examining body, excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate team working.

Experience of working in an office environment is essential and some knowledge of medical terminology is desirable. Previous secretarial experience within a healthcare setting is advantageous.

Main duties of the job

Patient administration underpins the patient journey, supports clinical teams in delivering high quality patient care and can make a real difference to the patient experience.

Effective and efficient patient administration supports management through ensuring a high standard of data quality and by making the best use of capacity and resources.

The Medical Secretarial Assistant is a vital part of effective patient administration.

The Medical Secretarial Assistant:

  • Supports the medical secretaries in providing an efficient medical secretarial service for the clinical team.
  • Assists and supports the medical secretaries in achieving targets including CQUINs and validation.
  • Assists and supports the Elective Access Clerk to provide an administrative service to the patient which supports the achievement of nationally and locally agreed access standards.
  • Provides cover for colleagues in their absence to maintain service levels.
