Job summary

As a Trust we support and encourage the recruitment and involvement of volunteers who not only help in providing our patients a positive experience during their stay in hospital but are also a precious support to our staff.

We are pleased to have secured 18 months funding from our ULH Charity to recruit 2 full time Volunteer Supervisors; one based at Lincoln County Hospital and the second based at Pilgrim Hospital in Boston, who will also oversee Grantham Hospital. You will be supported administratively by our onsite volunteer coordinators and our Voluntary Services Manager.

These positions have been created to help us grow and develop Voluntary Services at ULHT and support us to introduce exciting new projects including our 'Book a Volunteer' service.

Our supervisors will support newly recruited and existing volunteers placed in wards and departments, provide training and guidance and ensure all our volunteers continue to enjoy their hugely valued roles.

Main duties of the job

To provide supervisory and operational leadership to volunteers supporting wards and departments.

Provide training and support to existing and new volunteers and for the Busy Bees lead them to respond to requests in real time situations and have the fluidity to move around according to the daily requirements of the site. Particular focus will be within our Urgent & Emergency Care and discharge settings though could be anywhere across the hospital site and the roles undertaken across our role types.

Support the service with implementation of new initiatives.

Day to day

  • Supervising 'Busy Bees' daily, placements and dealing with operational requests for volunteers.
  • Providing additional support on the ground to staff who have volunteers placed in their departments.
  • New volunteer starters - Providing 4 week support for new volunteers ensuring placement is suitable.
  • Investigating opportunities to set up new volunteer placement opportunities in the hospitals and maintaining placement database information.
  • Managing the Volunteer Feedback from Volunteers - Following up on low scores and initiate improvements.
  • Supervising and managing rotas for various volunteer led services as directed, such as our planned Book a Volunteer initiative, Carers Hub at Pilgrim Hospital, golf buggy transport and our patient wardrobe / clothes store.
