Job summary

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals to join the Estates and Facilities Department's hospital switchboard team. This high profile role calls for good communication skills and experience of working closely with the general public. You will need to be able to cope calmly and effectively with both routine and emergency situations, and be a compassionate, professional and courteous individual.

This is a varied and interesting post involving liaising with departments in the hospital as well as security, maintenance and other support staff. Experience of working in a busy switchboard environment would be an advantage.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide prompt, professional, courteous and cost efficient communications and Reception services for the Trust.
  • To provide prompt and professional support for paging systems.
  • To ensure immediate actioning of prescribed alarm systems following documented guidelines.
  • To act as main liaison point for the site/Trust "Out of Hours" systems.
  • To support the day-to-day administration for Staff Accommodation.
  • To support the provision of Car Parking services.
  • Act as the central point for taxi bookings on site.

  • RSA level 1 or equivalent experience
  • Literate and numerate to GCSE or equivalent

  • NVQ 2 Customer Care or equivalent

  • Previous Switchboard operator experience.
  • Experience of working in a busy, pressurised, customer focused environment

  • Experience of controlling alarm and pager systems
  • Previous experience of a healthcare environment

  • The ability to handle up to 180 calls per hour at peak periods
